INSTALLATION

Prepatory Work (without wall board)

• Ensure that walls are square and plumb.
• Cut and install 2 stacked 2 x 4’s between studs on the floor to provide support to backer board.
• Sub floor under pan must be clean and level. Cut out a 5” diameter hole around drainpipe to allow pan to be inserted into floor.
• Cut floor drainpipe 1 3/8” (35 mm) below floor level.
• Remove square strainer from the drain and test fit pan to make certain if fits over drainpipe and sits flush and level with the floor.
• Remove the pan.
• If the pan needs to be site adjusted to fit the shower use a circular saw or utility knife to cut the pan to the proper shower dimensions.
• Dry fit the pan to make certain it properly fits over the drainpipe and sits flush and level with the floor.
• Using a circular saw with guide or utility knife recut the rabbet joints into the edges of the pan where required.

For PRO-500-503 models the rabbet joint should be 1/2” (12 mm) deep and 1/2” (12mm) in from the edge of pan. For PRO-504 rabbet joint should be 7/8” (22 mm) deep and 1/2” (12 mm) in from edge of pan.

Installation

• Apply a medium bed, modified thinset to the floor
area and underside of pan using a 1/4” x 1/4” (6 mm x 6 mm) notched trowel.
• Apply a liberal coat of PVC or ABS cleaner and solvent cement to the drainpipe and inside the drain where the connection will be made. (If plumber is making the connection this step can be performed after the pan is set into thinset).
Note: Follow manufacturer’s instructions.
• Set pan into the wet thinset and apply pressure to achieve complete coverage, insuring that the drain pipe and waste line are properly connected. Check pan for level set on floor. Apply weight (thinset bags) equally across pan for 30 minutes

Wall Backer Board Installation

ProPanel Lightweight Waterproof Backer Board

• Apply a 1/2” (12 mm) continuous thick bead of polyurethane sealant into the rabbet joint of the ProPan.
• Using 1/2” (12 mm) ProPanel, set the board into the sealant until you see sealant oozing out along the joint. Spread excess sealant ensuring a continuous seal at the joint.
• Fasten ProPanel directly to framing with ProPanel fasteners starting 1’ (300 mm) above the shower pan. Whenever two boards come together to make a joint, apply a 1/2” (12 mm) bead of sealant on board edges. All boards must be fitted together tightly allowing sealant to ooze from joint. Spread excess sealant ensuring a continuous seal at joint.
• All fasteners must be completely covered with sealant and spread to form a seal.

Concrete Backer Board or Other Backer Board

• Apply a 1/2” (12 mm) continuous thick bead of polyurethane sealant into the rabbet joint of the ProPan.
• Using 1/2” (12 mm) cement backer board, set the board into the sealant until you see sealant oozing out along the joint. Spread excess sealant ensuring a continuous seal at the joint. Take care when installing board onto base of ProPan.
• Fasten Cement Backer Board per manufacturer’s installation instructions directly to framing with cement backer board screws starting 1’ (300 mm) above the shower pan. Follow the instructions manufacturer’s instructions for treating seams.
• All screw heads should be covered with thinset.

After Wall Backer Board is installed

• Determine location of ProPan Curb. Affix curb to floor by applying a 1/4” (6 mm) modified mortar bed to floor and underside of curb. Before setting curb in place, apply a 1/2” (12 mm) bead of sealant to ProPan rabbet channel and to the adjoining wall panels.
• Next, screw strainer down to correct height to match tile. If required, cut threads down to adjust strainer to correct height. Always ensure a minimum of 1” (25.4 mm) of threads remain on strainer. Pack thinset or pea gravel into area cut out for strainer adjustment.

After ProPan Installation is Complete ProPanel Lightweight Waterproof Backer Board

• Apply another 1/2” (12 mm) bead of sealant on all ProPan perimeter joints and curb to fill any voids in sealant.

Concrete Backer Board or Other Backer Board

• Apply 6” (152 mm) fiberglass mesh at shower pan base, 3” (76 mm) on pan base and 3” (76 mm) up wall.

Apply two coats of liquid waterproofing over fiberglass mesh and up the walls a minimum of 1’ (300 mm). Allow 1st coat of waterproofing to cure completely before applying the 2nd coat.

Tile Installation Detail

• Install tile using a modified thinset and in accordance with the Tile Council of North America(TCNA) guidelines.

Prepatory Work (with wall board already in place)

• Ensure that walls are square and plumb.
• Sub floor under pan must be clean and level. Cut out a 5” diameter hole around drainpipe to allow pan to be inserted into floor.
• Cut floor drainpipe 13/8” (35 mm) below floor level.
• Remove square strainer from the drain and test fit pan to make certain if fits over drainpipe and sits flush and level with the floor.
• Remove the pan.
• If ProPan needs to be site adjusted to fit, use a circular saw or utility knife to cut the pan to the proper dimensions.
• Do not cut rabbet channel back into pan base.
• Dry fit the pan to make certain it properly fits over the drainpipe and sits flush and level with the floor.

Installation

• Apply a medium bed, modified thinset to the floor area and underside of pan using a 1/4” x 1/4” (6 mm x 6 mm) notched trowel.
• Apply a liberal coat of PVC or ABS cleaner and solvent cement to the drainpipe and inside the drain where the connection will be made. (If plumber is making the connection this step can be performed after the pan is set into thinset).
Note: Solvent choice based on drain type.
• Set pan into the wet thinset and apply pressure to achieve complete coverage, insuring that the drain pipe and waste line are properly connected. Check pan for level set on floor. Apply weight (thinset bags) equally across pan for 30 minutes.

• If the original rabbet joints remain on the perimeter fill them with a medium bed modified mortar.
• Next, screw strainer down to correct height to match tile. If required, cut threads down to adjust strainer to correct height. Always ensure a minimum of 1” (25.4 mm) of threads remain on strainer. Pack thinset or pea gravel into area cut out for strainer adjustment.
